Day by Day Itinerary
DAY 01: SUNDAY DEPARTURE FROM HOME
Our exciting journey begins as you board a wide-bodied jetliner in North America. Dinner and breakfast will be served onboard, before arrival in Israel.
DAY 02: MONDAY ARRIVAL IN TEL AVIV
Midafternoon arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv where you are met by your guide and driver who will assist with the transfer to the hotel in Tel Aviv.
DAY 03: TUESDAY NAZARETH / TIBERIAS
After a good night’s sleep and hearty breakfast, drive north near Netanya, “Pearl of the Sharon” towards Caesarea Maritima. This city was named in honor of Caesar Augustus. Continue to Haifa and Mount Carmel. It is near here that Prophet Elijah challenged the priests of Baal (1 Kings 18:17-40). The site “Mohraqa” is on the way to Megiddo and Nazareth in the hill country of Galilee where Jesus grew to manhood (Matthew 2:23). Visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, and Mary’s well. After lunch, we drive to Mount Tabor, Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8). From there enjoy a wonderful view of Mt. Hermon, Valley of Jezreel and Nain. Finally, pass through Cana, the scene of the wedding feast where the first miracle took place (transformation of water into wine, John 2:1-11). Descending 636 feet below sea level, arrive in Tiberias in time for dinner and overnight.
DAY 04: WEDNESDAY GALLILEE / TIBERIAS
Your day begins with a visit to Mount Beatitudes, revered by Christians as the site where Jesus preached his immortal “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew 5). Visit the remains of the church at Tabgha, dedicated to the feeding of the multitudes. A short drive takes you to Capernaum which in Jesus’ time was a flourishing “border town” called “His own city”. Visit the House of Simon Peter and the remains of the Synagogue. From Tiberias, board a launch-cruise that will take us across the tranquil Sea of Galilee followed by lunch at one of the Galilean restaurants. After a time to rest and relax, our motor coach takes us to the banks of the River Jordan for those who wish, may be baptized. Return to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 05: THURSDAY JERICHO / JERUSALEM
Be prepared to start early. After breakfast, we say farewell to the Sea of Galilee and start this day with a drive through the Jordan Valley road towards Jericho to visit the excavations of the Canaanite city of Old Jericho. View Mount Temptation and visit the site of Elisha’s Fountain. Drive through the hill country of Ephraim where we stop for lunch, and continue to “Shiloh” on the road between Shechem and Jerusalem. The Ark of the Covenant was kept at Shiloh for 369 years according to the Talmud. We stop for a high-tech presentation about the events that took place at Shiloh, having to do with the life of Eli, Hannah, Samuel, and the capture of the Ark by the Philistines (1 Samuel 2-4). Continue to Jerusalem arriving in time for dinner and overnight.
DAY 06: FRIDAY MT. OF OLIVES / BETHLEHEM
Today your tour will begin with a visit to Ein Karem, the birthplace of John the Baptist. A short six-mile drive south of Jerusalem brings us to the hillside city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Visit the oldest Church in Christendom, built over the cave where Jesus was born. After leaving the Basilica of the Nativity, stop at the Fields of the Shepherds. Lunch is included at a Bedouin restaurant in the area. Return to Jerusalem and continue sightseeing. The Mount of Olives is located on the eastern side of the Old City across the Kidron and offers a magnificent view of Jerusalem, Temple Mount, Judean Hills, and on a clear day the hills of Moab. As you descend the Mount, visit the Church of Pater Noster, the Ascension Chapel and the Chapel of Dominus Flevit. At the foot of the Mt. of Olives is the church of the Agony and the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed and was betrayed by Judas. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 07: SATURDAY QUMRAN / MASADA / DEAD SEA
Leaving Jerusalem by way of Jericho, the oldest walled city in the world. Arriving at Qumran, visit the community center of the Essenes and the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Continue towards Ein Gedi, an oasis located at the edge of the Judean desert, where King David hid while escaping the soldiers of Saul. After lunch at the Guesthouse Restaurant, we start our sightseeing on the southern shores of the Dead Sea. Ascend the fortress by cable car to visit the ruins of fortifications, waterworks, Herodian palaces, and Roman temples. Stop at the Dead Sea shore. This will be your opportunity to wade or swim in its saline water. Access to the beach and the showers are included. At the end of the day we board the bus to depart up toward Jerusalem for dinner.
DAY 08: SUNDAY JERUSALEM, THE HOLY CITY
Today we begin by visiting the Kidron Valley and the pool of Siloam, before driving to Mount Zion to visit the Upper Room, Tomb of King David, and the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu built over sections of the Palace of Caiaphas where Jesus was taken from Gethsemane and held in a cell dungeon before His crucifixion. View the Roman steps leading to the Garden of Gethsemane. Continue to visit the Jewish quarter, Temple Institute, Western Wall tunnels where you stand in reverence for the occasion. On Mount Moriah, Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Both Solomon’s and Herod’s Temple stood near here. We visit the Dome of the Rock and then visit the Friends of Zion Museum (Mike Evans) before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 09: MONDAY VALLEY OF ELAH / JERUSALEM
After Breakfast, drive west of Jerusalem towards Nebi Samuel (Tomb of the Prophet Samuel). Continue towards the
Valley of Ayalon, known as the location of the major battlefields where Joshua defeated his enemies when the sun, obeying his bidding, stood still near here. We drive past Emmaus and arrive in Beit Shemesh, where in Biblical times a battle between Israel and the Philistines, and they (the Philistines) captured the Holy Ark. Continue through the Valley of Elah where David fought Goliath, the Philistine Giant. After lunch, we visit the Shrine of the Book and the model of Jerusalem and Yad Vashem – the Holocaust Memorial. Return to the hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.
DAY 10: TUESDAY OLD CITY, GARDEN TOMB
In the morning, we begin a walking tour where a thousand and one sights and sounds greet you. Entering through St. Stephen’s Gate, visit Saint Anne’s Church, Pool of Bethesda, and the pavement (Lithostrotos) where the Roman soldiers gambled for the Robe of Christ. Stop at the Ecce Homo Arch (Behold the Man), and then walk the traditionally accepted last route trodden by Christ when led to his crucifixion – the Via Dolorosa. A worship service is planned at the Garden Tomb before lunch inside the Armenian Quarter within the city walls. Balance of the day is at your leisure in the Old City.
DAY 11: WEDNESDAY TEL AVIV / ROME
Transfer to the airport in Tel Aviv for the flight to Rome. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 12: THURSDAY ROME, THE ETERNAL CITY
Rome, the city God used to spread the Gospel to the world! Here stood the Apostle Peter and Paul, also Mark Anthony, Julius Caesar, Bernini, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. The history of this city, built on seven hills, began twenty-eight centuries ago and grew to command the entire Roman Empire. Your full day sightseeing will touch upon her extraordinary facets, the Colosseum, Moses Fountain, Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum, the Arch of Titus, and the Mamertine Prison (Paul’s Prison). Visiting the monumental Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City will be a highlight for your journey.
DAY 13: FRIDAY ROME / VATICAN CITY
Visit the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum before leaving St. Peter’s Square. See the Old Appian Way, the road Paul walked as he entered Rome, and the Saint Calixtus Catacombs. Visit the Basilica of Saint John Lateran and the “Holy Steps” (Scala Santa), where Martin Luther taught reforming the Church. Also, “Quo Vadis” and the Baths of Caracalla, now an open-air theatre. As your day comes to an end, visit the Basilica built over the tomb of Saint Paul. Return to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 14: SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY AM
DEPARTURE FROM ROME / ARRIVAL IN NORTH AMERICA
Morning transfer to Rome (Fiumicino) airport for your return flight to North America, arriving home the same day (27th) or early AM on the 28th.
